Public Speaking Seminar by Ms. Muriel Marbella

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

The quote "If you can speak, you can influence, if you can influence, you can change lives" by Rob Brown resonates with me on a personal level. As a cadet, I am constantly learning about leadership and how to be an effective communicator. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that a leader must be able to listen as well as speak. It is not enough to simply talk to people, you must also be willing to listen to their feedback and ideas. This requires a certain level of humility and an open mind.

During my time in the Academy, I have had several opportunities to speak in front of my peers and superiors. Although it can be nerve-wracking at first, I have found that with practice, my public speaking skills have improved. The key to success is to prepare thoroughly and practice your delivery. It is also important to know your audience and tailor your message to their needs and interests.

As someone who is preparing to become a leader, I need to understand the power of effective communication. Public speaking is a crucial part of leadership and being able to influence others is a skill that I need to master. If I can learn how to speak confidently and persuasively, I can motivate and inspire others to take action toward a common goal.

In addition to public speaking, I have also learned the importance of nonverbal communication. Body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions can all impact how your message is received. A leader must be aware of their nonverbal cues and use them to convey confidence and authority. The quote by Rob Brown also reminds me that as a leader, I have the power to change lives. By using my communication skills to inspire and motivate others, I can help them reach their full potential. This is a great responsibility and one that I take very seriously.

In conclusion, public speaking is an essential skill for any leader. As a cadet, I am working to develop my communication skills so that I can be an effective and influential leader in the future. The quote by Rob Brown reminds me that with the power of words, I can influence others and change lives for the better. With practice and dedication, I am confident that I can master the art of public speaking and become a competent leader in my field of work.
